PONDA: In a run up to the 2022 Assembly elections, there has been lot of political turmoil in the State with party hopers who dream of ending in the ruling leaving the common man confused over choosing whom to vote for.

The aam aadmi appears to be looking for a candidate who will solve their day to day problems, like the inflation, rise in cost of commodities, hike in fuel and other issues which have been left unsolved in the past while the probable candidates as well as the parties are only interested in getting elected to the Assembly.
While the voters, even those in middle class, are on the cross roads, the politicians are spending sleepless nights to discover a formula which will make them legislators. With so many political parties, local and national, who have joined the Goa’s electoral bandwagon, the contest is expected to take different turns as the elections date comes closer.
A voter, who chose to remain anonymous, said that some of the politicians are now busy with protests, holding press conferences and attempting to dig up the past and find faults with their rivals instead of trying to solve their hardships.
“Some parties are even making promises just to garner votes, knowing deep in their mind that they will never be able to fulfil them. However, most of the voters, who are youngsters, cannot be fooled and have realised that the promises made before elections are just on their politicans’ lip and on paper, and nothing concrete occurs once the elections end,” said a Ponda local.
A housewife Shanti Naik from Ponda questioned if the politicians are aware of their sufferings. Do they know about the skyrocketing prices of commodities right from coconuts to vegetables, to gas and petrol; are they aware of how the common man survives this difficult period in their lives, with the COVID-19 pandemic bringing in lockdowns, closures and curfews?
“I am not aware and am not interested in who is joining which party and who is contesting, but I only hope the candidate elected will solve our daily problems like house, water, electricity and look after our well-being,” Shanti said.
Another female local said, “Many politicians are now protesting, holding meetings for not getting a ticket form the party they work/worked and remained loyal in the past. Some authentic party workers are also angry with the leaders for accepting defactors, who have been critical of their party.”
