PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Thursday initiated steps in recovering outstanding dues from two sopo contractors within the jurisdiction of the corporation.
In two separate demand notices to two contractors, CCP asked them to pay the outstanding dues within 15 days of receipt of the notice failing which the corporation shall begin recovery proceedings.
Sonarya Hospitality Services, one of the sopo contractors owes CCP Rs 5,19,999 while the other contractor, Rajan C Mayenkar, owes the corporation Rs 37,34,150.
CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai said, “Sonarya Hospitality Services which was awarded contract in January 31, 2013 of which the licensing fee was fixed at Rs 78,88,887, payable in 12 equal monthly installments of Rs 6,57,407 by depositing post dated cheques for the period from 01/02/2013 to 31/01/2014. As per CCP records it was revealed that two cheques had bounced amounting to Rs 13,14,814.”
“The other contractor Rajan C Mayekar has only paid Rs 35,00,000 and has failed to pay an outstanding amount of Rs 27,00,700 and further while going through records, it came light that an additional amount of Rs 10,33,450 is also pending for the month of January and February 2015.”
The demand notice further states that both contractors are directed to pay the outstanding amounts along with interest at 9 percent per annum and also with the penalty from the date of default in payment failing which corporation shall proceed recovery proceeding.
