PANJIM: The Election code of conduct will not affect the procurement of medicines at the Goa Medical College and Hospital as the tenders were floated before the election dates were announced, the GMC authorities have said. The first of the tenders will be opened on March 24 with the others will follow subsequently.
Earlier there were speculations that the announcement of elections and the subsequent code of conduct would further delay the procurement of essential medicines at the State’s premier medical institute.
“There are several tenders, all of which have been floated before the election code of conduct came into force. They will be opened as per schedule,” GMC’s Director of Administration Gurudas Pilernkar told Herald. “We have received no communication from the election commission,” he added.
The GMC has been plagued with serious delay in issuing medicine tenders forcing the hospital pharmacy department to resort to local purchases that are costlier than those procured through tendering.
Herald had earlier reported that the burden on GMC’s budget was significantly higher since they resorted to local purchase due to delays in tender procurements.
