MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) held a special meeting to discuss and decide on identifying land for parking of abandoned cars and construction of a cattle pound at Cunchelim, outsourcing of door to door collection of municipal solid waste, tender for construction of beef/ pork stalls and various other topics on Friday.
The meeting also discussed on the procurement of vehicles for collection and transportation and regarding Rs 1,000 to be given as medical allowance to the permanent employees.
The council adopted several resolutions at the special meeting: acquiring land at Cunchelim for construction of a cattle pond and for parking of abandoned cars and bikes.
Chairman Ryan Braganza pointed out that the Mapusa traffic department had requested the municipality to provide them with some area to park the abandoned vehicles.
“The traffic department has informed that they do not have space to keep the vehicles lifted. Around 2,000 sq mts area will be used for parking these abandoned vehicles. There are around 80 to 90 four-wheelers lying in Mapusa jurisdiction. To lift them there is no space to store them safely. We will later decide whether to auction them if the owners are not interested or then scarp them. We will also be imposing a fine as we are providing space and security,” Braganza said.
“Coming to the cattle pound, we will tie up with various goshalas. The tender was accepted for the work of construction of the beef/ pork stalls in the Mapusa Municipal market to the tune of Rs 66 lakh. We will also be carrying out the purchase of vehicles through the Fourteen Finance Commission to the tune of Rs 63 lakh,” he added.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and Chief Officer Clen Madeira were conspicuous by their absence at the meeting.
