SANGUEM: The Sanguem Merchants Association compelled the municipal and police authorities to close down the “Weekly Wednesday Market” at Sanguem, which was opened for the first time since March 22 lockdown imposed due to COVID-19.
A huge gathering of people created chaos in the market, which forced the association members to complain to the authorities that social distancing norms were flouted. The members also brought to the notice of the authorities that some people were not wearing masks, which is compulsory in the State.

Following the complaint, the municipal and the police officials rushed to the open market and directed the vendors to shut down the shops immediately.
The open market was closed barely after two hours of its opening. By the time it was closed, a large number of people had already made their purchases and returned home.
The police imposed fines on those who were found not wearing masks.
Meanwhile, the swift action resorted to by the Association members was welcomed by the locals.
