Ponda: A MGP official candidate is facing a challenge from its own supporter contesting as Independent at Queula.
MGP had fielded its official candidate Ganpat Naik for the Quela ZP seat. However, Sudesh Bhingi, one of MGP strong workers, former Deputy Sarpanch of Talavlim and strong supporter of Sudin Dhavalikar has also filed his nomination for the Queula ZP seat as independent candidate, which, sources say, will be a setback for the party.

The BJP has fielded Jayraj Naik while there are other Independent candidates in Guru Naik and Prakash Naik, totalling five for the contest.
Quela ZP seat is for general category this time and falls in Marcaim Constituency which is the citadel of MGP leader and former PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.
Quela ZP seat comprises four of the total six constituencies of Marcaim constituency. These include Quela, Talavlim, Durbhat and Bandora where Sudin Dhavalikar has stronghold and he has record of winning assembly seat with highest number of votes.
Since he remained as minister for the past two decades he had good contacts with the voters. However, the MGP Official Candidate Ganpat Naik is now facing the challenge of not only BJP but also one of MGP Supporters Sudesh Bhingi who is contesting as Independent.
Besides, Guru Naik contesting as Independent is also having good contact among people.
Prakash Naik is another candidate who filed nominations from Quela. Congress had not fielded any candidate from Quela Constituency.
Bhingi said since the past Panchayat Election he was preparing for ZP polls. He said though he is contesting as independent he is a MGP worker.
Reacting to rebel candidature MGP leader and Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik said they are sure of their victory and it would not affect the prospect of their official candidate as MGP voters are with MGP.
While MGP is facing a rebel at Quela, the BJP is facing a rebel at Borim wherein Poonam Samanth a strong supporter of BJP had filed her nomination as Independent against Deepak Naik Borkar.
Suraj Naik block President expressed that rebel filing nomination would not affect prospect of their official candidate Deepak Naik Borkar.
MGP had fielded Baburao Salekar in this constituency while AAP fielded Dinesh Borkar.
The other independent candidates from Borim are Vithal Borkar, Dyaneshwar Khandeparkar and Kumud Gaude. Tough battle is expected at Borim between BJP, MGP and Independent candidate. Congress had not fielded any candidate from Borim.
