MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club drubbed Corps of Signals 4-0 in the Goa Professional League, organised by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here on Friday.
Salgaocar scored all the four goals in the second half through Ronaldo Oliveira’s brace, Godfrey Mascarenhas and Mackroy Peixoto.
Signals keeper Niyas Mon was called into action in the third minute of play when he came up with a smart save to fend off a power packed strike by Rollwin Almeida from 30-yards.
Samuel Costa failed to find the net for Salgaocar minutes later after being teed up by Mackroy Peixoto who also saw his well struck shot in the 20th minute hit the defender and before any of his teammates could react to the rebound it was pushed out for a corner by the keeper.
In the 32nd minute, the Signals keeper Niyas Mon once again denied Salgaocar i by came out of his goal in the nick of time to deny Devendra Murgaonkar before he could shoot off an intelligent pass made by Godfrey Mascarenhas.
Signals had only a sniff at their rival goal when Pawan Thakur’s shot which was travelling towards the goal hit the Salgaocar defender and went out for a corner.
Crossing ends, the Green Brigade were a changed side and made it 1-0 in the 54th minute through Ronaldo Oliveria who controlled a pass from his teammate, positioned himself and fired a low grounder giving no chance to the Signal keeper.
Gofrey Mascarenhas made it 2-0 five minutes later with an excellent reverse kick after Sanson Pereira corner was cleared by the Signals defender into his path.
Mackroy Peixoto got the third goal for Salgoacar when he curled the ball into the top corner after being set up by Devendra.
In the 88th minute, Denil Rebello was denied by the crosspiece in finding his name on the score sheet with a sizzling strike as the ball rolled to Devendra whose effort was easily collected by the rival keeper Niyas.
Salgoacar keeper Jason D`Mello who had nothing much to do in the entire match brilliantly stopped Roshan Singh’s hot blooded 30-yard shot in finding the net. Ronaldo Oliveira got his brace in added time to make the score 4-0.
