MARGAO: In a major day light burglary, burglars struck in a big way at Balli on Wednesday, decamping with cash of Rs 15.30 lakhs, besides gold ornaments valued over Rs three lakhs, all amounting to Rs 18.30 lakh from a residential house located near the Balli railway station.
The incident occurred between 9 am in the morning and 3.30 pm when the miscreants managed to effect entry into the house after it was locked by one of the brothers Parshuram Naik. The daring burglary came to light when officials of a nationalised bank had come to the house in connection with a banking transaction when they found the house open and the cupboards ransacked.
Hanumantha Naik told Herald that the entire family had proceeded to Belgaum for the annual Zatra on Monday when they were conveyed of the news by the banking officials while they were returning to Goa on Wednesday. “My elder brother Parshuram Naik had left the house for Panjim after locking the door. The burglars have lifted away my money amounting to Rs 11.50 lakh which I had kept in the house — a three bedroom rental apartment. Besides, they have managed to lift away Rs three lakh belonging to my sister, and other Rs 80,000 of my brother”, he said.
He further informed that three gold necklaces, chains, bracelets of the family members valued at over Rs three lakh have been lifted from
the house.
