The annual ban on fishing by trawlers will commence on June 1 and last till July 31. Fishing by trawlers is banned during the monsoons since it is the spawning period when fish lay eggs. The ban is enforced to allow the fish to breed and multiply. Fisheries Minister Nilkant Harlankar said strict patrolling will be carried out during the ban. Trawlers will be allowed to venture into the sea only from August 1
