BENAULIM: SC Davorlim defeated Navelim Villagers Union 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 4th St Sebastian Trophy football tournament, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
SC Davorlim began their moves on positive note creating chances into the rival defence.
Navelim Villagers were good at the same time as they created a lot of scoring chances.
The deadlock was finally broken by SC Davorlim in the 21st minute of play when Rovan Pereira of Navelilm handled the ball inside the penalty area and referee Mervin Tellis awarded a penalty kick to SC Davorlim of which Paxton Gomes converted, 1-0.
There after Navelim SC tried to equalise but their efforts didnt yield any fruitful results.
After change of ends, SC Davorlim further increased the lead by scoring 2-0 through Paxton Gomes, as Akashay Shivolkar of Navelim handled the ball inside the own box which resulted in, the referee pointing out at the spot which Paxton Gomes converted to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute.
SC Davorlim will clash with Guardian Angel SC in quarter-final, on July 29.
