Vilas Dessai, the BJP Mandal president of Sanvordem, has entered, or made to enter this complex controversy vide Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte’s presentation to the media on Tuesday where he stated that Dessai was director in a company which owned Edmonton Royals, one of the teams in the T20 league in Canada, along with another who in turn is a director of a company GKP services with Jhaveri and another.
Dessai, owner of the Sarvodaya Sports Club and Edmonton Royals rubbished the allegations made by Khaunte and Sudin Dhavalikar as false and said that he has neither had a connection with Jhaveri nor is there any politician’s money involved in his team as alleged by the MLA. He said that he won’t hesitate to file a defamation suit against the persons making fake allegations. “My intention to start the Sarvodaya Global Sports Pvt Ltd, bid and buy the franchise at GT20 Canada cricket league which I later named Edmonton Royals was to take Goan cricket talent to the world. I am the sole owner of the company and team,” Dessai said.
Incidentally, The Edmonton Royals squad does not have a single Goan cricketer. In fact there is no Indian cricketer in that team consisting mainly expat cricketers who are citizens of Canada and Hong Kong besides a host of Pakistani cricketers.
Khaunte, while addressing a press conference, alleged a strong link between the actor and BJP leaders.
Dessai said that no minister of Goa has any connection financially or otherwise with his sports company and rubbished Khaunte’s claims of Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar being involved.
He said, “On behalf of Sanvordem BJP Mandal, I condemn the statement alleging the CM to be supporting the rave party.”
