A massive manhunt is underway in the wake of a tragic series of events that left 22 people dead and dozens more injured. The deadly incident unfolded across two separate locations, Sparetime Recreation, a local bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant.
Not long after the harrowing shooting spree was reported, authorities identified Robert Card as a person of interest in this horrific tragedy. A 40-year-old firearms instructor in the US Army Reserve, Card had recently been discharged from a mental health facility due to reported hallucinations. Maine officials are now coordinating the efforts of hundreds of police officers from across the state to locate Card, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
The vehicle connected to Robert Card was located in the town of Lisbon on Wednesday night. Consequently, town offices in Lisbon, which neighbours Lewiston, have been closed as the manhunt intensifies. Local schools have also decided to cancel classes on Thursday in the interest of safety.
The situation remains highly fluid, and there are many unknowns at this time. Information is rapidly evolving, but it’s not always entirely accurate. Authorities are urging residents to continue sheltering in place or seek safety. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available, and further steps will be taken as appropriate, according to a statement from Lewiston Public Schools.
