MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Wednesday decided to do away with the levy collection contractor. The SGPDA also decided to tender the work soon and informed that it has received proposal from a Goan agency for garbage disposal at source.

After the meeting, SGPDA chairman Wilfred D’Sa informed that following several complaints from vendors at wholesale and retail markets against the contractor for overcharging them and for allowing retail in wholesale market, the authority has decided to do away with the levy collection contractor.
“We have decided to tender the levy collection work and auction. By the time the procedure is complete, the collection will be done departmentally by the SGPDA,” Wilfred said.
The chairman informed that they have received a proposal from a Goan firm Alternergy for complete waste management at SGPDA which will include collection of waste from wholesale as well as retail market and treatment.
“The agency has requested for 200 sq mts of land for the set up and informed them that they will have to self fund the project. The agency will charge Rs 2.20 lakh per month for the entire operations,” he said.
The SGPDA will first see the operations of the company’s existing set up and will decide accordingly at the meeting.
