VASCO: The Goa Customs seized foreign currency worth Rs 19 lakh from an Air India flight.
Based on intelligence inputs, the officers of Goa Customs headed by Dr Raghavendra P rummaged the aircraft in its arrival and searched an international transit passenger who boarded the flight at Bangalore going to Dubai. From the said transit passenger the recovery of foreign currency equivalent into Indian currency Rs 19 lakh was seized.
The foreign currency was seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962. The whole exercise was conducted under the overall guidance of R Manohar, Commissioner of Customs and under the supervision of T R Gajalakshmi, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Goa.
Further investigation in the seizure case is in progress. With this case, the Goa customs has since April 2018 and till date seized foreign currency worth Rs 55 lakh.
