After graduating from Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce, Pune
and completing his Post Graduation from Pune University, Christo Fernandes
completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Management from Goa University. Christo
has been teaching at the Goa Institute of Management for the past six years and
specialises in leadership and stress management. Besides academics, he has a
passion for music and is the founder of Namah Chorale. He also enjoys swimming
and playing basketball, though, he admits that of late, he indulges more in
watching basketball games rather than playing them.
“My students are extremely good and enjoy interactive
learning extensively. I believe that learning is a two way process and a
connection has to be built between a teacher and the student. They feel free to
ask as many questions about the topic. The learning environment has changed
with each one bringing their inputs into the class. A teacher has now become an
educator who facilitates learning,” says Christo.
To prepare for his lectures, Christo has a schedule marked
out. “I generally take time for new topics as it involves going through
research journals, making modules then smaller case studies which can be
discussed in class with a little conceptual theory lecture. I also utilise role
play and one act plays to understand the topic better and make it more engaging
for the students,” adds Christo who takes his daily commute from Taleigao to
Sanquelim and back, in his stride.
