MARGAO: The wholesale fish traders and the levy charges collection contractor of the market have started trading charges against each other again.
They did so in two separate press conferences in Margao, on Tuesday.
The Wholesale Fish Traders Association has alleged that the levy charges collection contractor is collecting over Rs 30 lakh per month and is giving Rs 3 lakh per month to the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA).
The Wholesale Fish Traders Association Chief M Ibrahim said, “Money is being extorted from us and there needs to be an inquiry as to where the entire collected money is going.”
Meanwhile, levy charges collection contractor Milagres Fernandes alleged that there are some politicians supporting the formalin fish mafia and requested the politicians to stop protecting him (Ibrahim).
“Ever since we took over the affairs of the market, the Goans in the business are happy. This formalin mafia has not been able to do what he wants and hence he is desperate,” said Milagres.
