PERNEM: Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has opposed the Sunburn electronic dance festival in Pernem.
The MLA said that having an event like Sunburn in Pernem will be a great injustice to the traditional artistes for which the taluka is known for. He also said that if locals don’t want such events in Pernem, then it should not be forced upon them.

“Sunburn is a tourism related event as it attracts people all over India and abroad. But that doesn’t mean we should compromise on our culture. I don’t want a festival like Sunburn to come in Pernem as it is known as mine of traditional art forms. And if Sunburn comes to Pernem, then it will be great injustice to the talent of the local performers,” Arolkar said.
Arolkar further added that since people are opposing this event, the Government should think over it and should not organise the event in Pernem.
It can be called that a week ago, the Mopa Vimantal Pidit Xetkari Samiti members had written to the concerned authorities, including the Chief Secretary, wherein they had objected to having the Sunburn event in Pernem.
They had also threatened to come on the streets if their demand was not fulfilled.
