PANJIM: To celebrate 83 years in publication and give away its annual awards, Konkani news weekly Vavraddeancho Ixtt (Workers’ Friend) organized a program at the All India Mission Seminary hall in Pilar, recently. A Konkani book exhibition was also jointly organized by Goa Konkani Akademi, Konkani Bhasha Mandal and Dalgado Konkani Akademi.
V Ixtt presented awards to those who had contributed to the progress of Konkani literature. The Fr Lactancio Almeida Yadostik Puroskar was presented to Jasmine Rodrigues Estibeiro from Nuvem for her outstanding contribution to the publication in 2015.
The Shennoi Goybab Yadostik Puroskar was conferred on Dr Jayanti Naik from Quepem for her research on Konkani folk tales. The Dr Jose Pereira Yadostik Puroskar was presented to Dr Prakash Parienkar from Valpoi for his eco-anthropological study of the Mhadei River valley. The Fr Nicolau Pereira Yadostik Puroskar was conferred on Teffany Maria Gama from Sancoale for securing the highest marks in Konkani at the M A examinations 2014-15 and jointly conferred on Shashikala Redkar from Mapusa and Utkarsha G Raikar from Porvorim for securing the highest marks in Konkani at the B A examinations 2014-15. The Best Parish Bulletin Award for 2015 was awarded to ‘Prerna’ (Inspiration), a parish bulletin of St Diogo Church, Guirim-Sangolda.
In his speech, DKA president and chief guest Premanand Lotlikar said, “The awardees who were honoured today must continue their work for the Konkani.”
Dr Prakash Parienkar thanked the team of V Ixtt. A tribal dance by dancers from Arunachal , an instrumental piece and orchestra by Fr Agnel Seminary, Batim and a mando by Chubby Cheeks High School, Porvorim added colour to the ceremony.
