PANJIM: After the arrest of a Raipur native with drugs inside the Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival venue, drugs were found on five persons  at the Supersonic EDM  festival which exposes the fact that drugs are a major draw at these festivals.
The Calangute police on December 30, 2013 seized, 10 gms of ganja, worth Rs 1,000 from the possession of Joris Isidore Dias from Loutolim. The sleuths also confiscated one I-phone and cash of  Rs 500 from him. Police sources add  that another four persons were caught with ganja at the venue.
It may be recalled that just three days before, on December 27 Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) sleuths arrested a domestic tourist Saurabh Agarwal with drugs — 10 gms valued at Rs 3,000 — in his possession at Sunburn’s Vagator venue.
According to police sources and locals, many illegalities including that of several hundred persons smoking hookahs and chillums, people snorting drugs in temporary bathrooms set up for party goers, crew members, and foreigners were seen. While no arrests were made due to what were stated as ‘technical difficulties’, over 1000 persons were fined for smoking at the designated ‘no smoking venue’.
Before the EDMs started, during the last week of December 2013, the Narcotics Control Bureau had arrested three locals with a haul of drugs valued at Rs 1 crore, which the alleged drug peddlers were planning to supply at these venues.
