CANACONA: At a meeting convened on Sunday, the Loliem-Polem gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution to oppose the nationalisation of Goan Rivers and coal handling at the Mormugao Port Trust.
On the application submitted last week by Ms Pamela Rodrigues to include nationalisation of rivers and coal handling at MPT in the agenda for the meeting on Sunday, the gram sabha held a discussion and Manoj Prabhugaonkar explained to the members present the ill-effects on the nationalisation of rivers and coal handling and transportation through Goa. Later, a resolution opposing both rivers nationalisation and coal handling were unanimously passed. The gram sabha was presided over by Sarpanch Ajay Lolienkar with all panchas in attendance.
Speaking to Herald, Ms Pamela said that she was happy that both the river nationalisation and coal handling resolutions are unanimously passed by the panchayat.
But she seemed unhappy over the fact that her another application regarding the biodiversity committee was rejected even after listing it on the agenda on grounds that biodiversity committee is not part of the panchayat and she was told to ask this question in the biodiversity committee meeting of which she is a member. “I will complain regarding this issue to the director of panchayat,” Ms Rodrigues asserted.
