In a recent development, Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane has candidly admitted that Bondla Zoo in Goa is currently in bad shape but reassured the public that a comprehensive master plan has been drawn up for its revival. The plan, estimated to cost around Rs 100 crore, will be implemented in multiple phases to ensure a systematic and effective transformation.
The issue was brought to light by Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of zoos in Goa, with a specific focus on Bondla Zoo. Minister Rane acknowledged the validity of the concern and disclosed that over 80,000 visitors had frequented Bondla Zoo during the 2022-23 period.
