MARGAO: The stage is set for the celebration of the traditional Dindi festival in the commercial capital on Friday.
The palki of Lord Vithal Rakhumaye will be taken out in a procession from Hari Mandir in the evening, which will then wend its way through the city, before heading to the Vithal Mandir, Comba and culminating at the Hari Mandir on Saturday.
The police have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival. The entire Palki route from Hari Mandir to Vithal Mandir, Comba has been kept free from parking of all types of vehicles on either side of the road.
The police have also declared no parking on the Hari Mandir-Lilly garment-New Market road; entire station road, from Bank of India (George garment corner upto Bata Showroom); behind MMC building to Rangavi building; Bank of India to Gomant Vidya Niketan; Abade Faria road between G V Niketan and JMFC, Margao. Besides, no parking has been decalred on all Comba internal lanes approaching Abade Faria road; on Comba road approaching Vithal Mandir, Comba and entire station road from Bombay Cafe to Apollo Hospital.
Parking arrangements has been made near Adarsh high school, old bus stand and near Mahila Nutan high school, Comba.
Police said the Aquem-MMC road will be closed near Mahalaxmi shop (Chamundi apartment) and traffic will be diverted towards Pajifond via Quality laundry road.
The Goa police has made tight security arrangements by mobilising around 219 police personnel, besides two platoons of IRB. Police in plain clothes will be stationed at various strategic locations to keep an eye on any person committing mischief.
