Pulsar motorcycle stolen
MARGAO: A Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number GA-08-C-8769 has been stolen recently. In his complaint to Margao police, Riyaz Ahamad Mulla of Malbhat said that he parked his Pulsor motorcycle in open place on June 5 at 9 pm and on the next day June 6 at 6 am he found the same missing. An offence of theft has been registered under section 379 of IPC and ASI Khotarkar is investigating.
Curchorem local booked
MARGAO: Satyajit Herie Dessai of Curchorem has been booked under Section 279 and 337 of IPC for rash and negligent driving thereby endangering human life. The incident is said to have occurred at on June 9, 9.20 am at Arlem Highway road when Dessai driving a Hero Honda motorcycle dashed on Keleta Oliveira, 22, of Margao and causing her injury.

100 cops benefit from diabetic camp
MARGAO: One hundred police personnel from south Goa police headquarters and Margao division availed the benefit of a free diabetic camp (RBSC and consultation) organized by Goa Ayurvedic Hospital, Apollo Victor Annex, Malbhat-Margao in association with Margao police on June 12. Dr Sweeta Gaonkar and Dr Prth Mahajan assisted by hospital marketing manager, Aswhin Furtado and assistant manager Santosh Vernakar checked the patients.

Scholarship distribution
PANJIM: Urjja Foundation will present scholarships on June 15 at 10.30 am at Farmers Society Hall, Pernem and will be addressed by environmentalist Prof Rajendra Kerkar, Milind Kerkar and Prof Anil Samant, Principal, Saraswat Higher Secondary School, Mapusa. Students studying in 10th standard and coming from poor and needy family are eligible. The needy student should also have secured at least 50% marks in his or her 9th standard. Each selected student will be given Rs 2,500 which covers his/her expenses of books, notes books, term fees, exam fees and a pair of uniform and shoes. This year 30 students will receive an amount of Rs 2,500 each, from different 30 donors at the function on June 15.

Parking, traffic advisory for Modi visit
PANJIM: In view of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Goa on June 14, members of public have been asked not to park their vehicles along the VVIP route from Dabolim Airport to Raj Bhavan via Goa University and from NIO Circle to Kala Academy, Campal via Miramar Circle. Members of public are advised to avoid these routes between 12 noon and 7 pm on June 14. Any vehicle found abandoned on the VVIP route will be towed away.
Vaddem Lake beautification on cards
DABOLIM: The beautification of the Vaddem Lake, a lakeside amphitheatre and free recreational activity and non-competitive sports activities at the Chicalim junction are some of the major projects that will be taken up by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho in his constituency after the monsoon. Addressing a news conference in his office at Upasnagar on Tuesday, Godinho after completing various projects in Dabolim constituency roughly estimating Rs 20 crore like hot mixing of roads, de-silting of nullahs, jogger’s park, Godinho has set his eyes on various projects and beautification of the Vaddem Lake after the monsoon.
Godinho said the beautification of the 6000 sq mtrs lake is estimated to cost about Rs 5.5 crore, which will includes 1.8 mtrs path along the lake for a walking track. “The lake will also have culvert-type bridges for the people to experience fishing,” he said.
“Floating aerators will be installed in the lake to help clean the lake. The tidal flushing will also be taken up soon and there won’t be any dead fish,” added Godinho.
Godinho said there will be amphitheatre coming up soon for the people to help them perform along the lake.
“I have spoken to Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, the director of municipal administration and State Urban development Authority (SUDA) to undertake the development of Vaddem Lake. This will be the third time that the lake will be beautified after initially renovated a couple of years back and have obtained the NOC from the church authority,” he said.
Godinho said he has asked the SUDA officials to present the plan to the Vasco councillors.
The second major project is at Chicalim junction under Urban Development Ministry scheme ‘FRANCIS’ (free recreational activity and non competitive sports).
“It is first project in Mormugao taluka with play area, flower vegetation and the existing hall will be improved,” said Godinho.
