Rs 2.5 cr allotted for Queg de Velim, Coco beaches beautification

SALIGAO: Housing Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar has said that the government through the Goa Tourism Development Council (GTDC) has allotted Rs 2.5 crore for beautifying Queg De Velim and Coco beach. The minister was speaking on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a box culvert at Queg De Velim in Reis Magos Panchayat.
The Water Resources Department is constructing a retaining wall at Queg De Velim beach, while PWD is constructing the culvert and protection of the road and GTDC is undertaking the work of providing other amenities.
“Due to soil erosion most of the roads along this beach had turned weak and was collapsing. Half of the retaining wall has already been completed and the remaining portion will be completed shortly. The traditional nullah was also getting blocked at a certain point which was weakening the road. For the free flow of water, we are constructing a box type culvert at Queg De Velim,” Salgaonkar said.
The works of setting up benches, toilets and other amenities for the benefit of senior citizens, tourists and locals will be carried out on both the beaches. There will also be a high mast erected at these beaches.
Salgaonkar revealed that there were barely any facilities made available for the people who used to visit this beach or come to swim here. “We have decided to take up the works through various departments. Together, we are working for a beautiful Reis Magos and Saligao Constituency,” he said.
