MARGAO: Sarzora witnessed uproar after agitated villagers led by Sarpanch Jacinto Fernandes caught red handed a goods carrier which had brought garbage to the village.
The Cuncolim police which was intimated by the sarpanch later seized the vehicle. The sarpanch has now disclosed plans to write to the Goa State Pollution Control Board before initiating further action against the activity.
The incident occurred this morning when the sarpanch along with ward member Lourdina Menezes visited the dumping site when they came across the vehicle bringing garbage into the village. “The owner entered into heated arguments with us, but we decided to intimate the matter to the Cuncolim police for necessary action. After the health department imposed a fine on the owner, he promised to stop the activity, but in vain. Residents want the activity to be stopped,” Jacinto said.
Ward member Lourdina Menezes said the residents of the locality are against waste dumping activity in the village. “This activity has to stop. The entire locality is against the activity,” she said. A local resident Camilo Mascarenahs said that Sarzora villagers are opposed to outside garbage coming into the village.
