PONDA: One Atish Naik, resident of Gaunem allegedly suffocated and killed his wife Anuja Naik (35) in the wee hours of Monday and fled the spot.
According to Ponda police, the couple were married three years ago, but the husband was suspicious of the character of his wife, which is said to have led to the committing of crime.
Police say the couple, originally from Varad-Gaunem were currently residing at Margao. The couple had arrived recently at their traditional house at Gaunem.
According to reports, Atish is said to have left the house at about 1 pm informing family members that he was venturing out to get food items and lunch.
However, when he did not return till late evening his family got suspicious and broke the lock of his room, only to find his wife lying dead. Police, who are on a look-out for the husband, suspect Atish may have committed the murder by suffocating her with a pillow.
The police are looking at all possible angles leading to the crime. Investigations are in progress.
