Nisha catches up with Vijayalakshmi, in joint lead

PANJIM: IM Nisha Mohota of PSPB managed to catch up with overnight leader IM Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman (2314) of Air India scoring 8.5 points to be in joint lead at the end of 10th round of 41st National Women Challengers Chess Championship 2014 being played at Boxing Hall, Peddem Sports Complex, Peddem-Mapusa. 
The game between IM Nisha and Lasya G started with kings Indian defence, closed variation which lasted for 32 moves. Nisha managed to break the defence of Lasya G and took control of seventh rank. She also had a advantage of rook exchange and an extra pawn  in addition she combined her queen and rook and posted them on the sixth rank which paralysed blacks bishop and knight which were protecting her king. Finding no respect from the onslaught of queen and rook, black resigned after 32 moves.
IM Vijayalakshmi of Air India drew with Nimmy George of Kerala. Playing on board one, in Guico Piano, Greeco attack Vijee could not convert it into win today. In fact Nimmy had slight advantage but both the players decided to split the points after 30 moves. 
Nimmy George is now in second position with the score of 7.5 points along with WGM Swati Ghate of LIC, Lakshmi Praneetha (2005) of Andra Pradesh, Neha Singh of Bihar and Hinduja Reddy of Andhra Pradesh.  
There are nine players at third position with the score of seven points each, WGM Padmin Raut of Odisha, WGM Aarthie Ramaswamy of Air India, WGM Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa, WIM Ivana Furtado of Goa, Pratusha Bodda of Andhra Pradesh, Smarki  Mohanthy of West Bengal, WFM Mahalakshmi M and Varshini V of Tamil Nadu and Lasya G of Andhra Pradesh.
WGM Aarthie Ramaswamy drew with Lakshmi Praneethe of Andhra Pradesh, Swati Ghate outsmarted Harshita Guddanthi of Andhra Pradesh, Neha Singh outplayed Bala Kannamma of Tamil Nadu, WGM Swamya Swaminathan lost to Hinduja Reddy of Andhra Pradesh.

WGM Bhakti Kulkarni had to settle for a draw with Varshini V of Tamil Nadu.
Among the other Goan players, WFM Riya Savant drew with WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty of LIC, Adittee Prabhugaonkar outsmarted Tamaraiselvi (1665) of Tamil Nadu. They are on 6.5 points. Nandhini Saripalli and Gauri Hadkonkar are on 6 points.
