MARGAO: Konkani Bhasha Mandal is organising a three-day lecture series at Ravindra Bhavan Margao.
The first lecture in the series, in the memory of late M S Prabhu, will be delivered by Economist and columnist Swaminathan S Ankalesari Aiyyar on November 24, at 6 pm. The subject of the lecture is, “From Narasimha Rao to Narendra Modi.” Aiyyar will present his views on development, economic and social issues over the last 25 years, putting the Modi regime in perspective.
Aiyar is a prominent Indian journalist and columnist. He is consulting editor for the Economic Times and writes regularly for the Economic Times and The Times of India. He has two books to his credit: Towards Globalization (1992) and Swaminomics: Escape from the Benevolent Zookeepers (2008).
The second day will unfold the History of official language agitation wherein the leaders of the movement, Pundalik Naik, Luizinho Faleiro, Prashant Naik, Hema Naik, Adv Anaclet Viegas, Nirmala Sawant, N Shivdas, R B S Komarpant and Prashanti Talpankar will be interviewed by senior journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai. This programme is being held in the memory of late Vijaibai Sarmalkar, a renowned Konkani poet. The interview will begin at 3 pm.
On the third day, Sambhaji Bhagat, a leading personality of street theatre of Maharashtra and a popular ‘Shahir’, will deliver Meera Kosambi memorial lecture on the topic, ‘Loksaunskruti aani Kalavant’. Bhagat is a Dalit activist, and the music composer for Chaitanya Tamhane’s national award-winning feature film ‘Court’ which is India’s official entry to the best foreign language category of the Academy Awards, 2016. The lecture will begin at 5.30 pm.
