PERNEM: A residential construction project in Mandrem allegedly linked to Kollywood actor Nagarjuna Rao Akkineni has run into rough weather and has been issued stop work order by the panchayat.
Mandrem Sarpanch Amit Sawant stated that the owner was carrying out alleged the illegal construction and excavation in property bearing survey no 211/2 B at Ashvewada, Mandrem, without obtaining prior permission from the authorities and the Panchayat and hence the offender was issued a notice Under Section 64 (1) (J) of the Goa Panchayati Raj Act 1994.
Before commencement of any construction/erection/ excavation work, prior permission is required to be obtained from the Panchayat under section 66 (1) of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994, but the owner failed to take to obtain it, said the sarpanch.
In view of the same, Nagarjuna was directed to stop the work failing which necessary action would be initiated against him as per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994.
“The Mandrem panchayat welcomes projects as long as they are legal, but illegalities will not be tolerated,” the Sarpanch said.
