PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the State government will amend the Goa Co-operative Societies Act so that people investing in the co-operative sector aren’t cheated and the fraudsters are punished.
“There is a need to strengthen the co-operative laws to safeguard the interests of investors and punish the fraudsters, who cheat the investors,” the Chief Minister said at the Co-operative awards distribution ceremony held in Shiroda.

Sahakar Ratna Award was presented to Late Jaikrishna Putu Shirodkar postumously; Sahakar Bhushan to Shrikant P Naik; Sahakar Shree to Damodar Betu Naik. Other awards presented were – Best Co-Operative society to The Bhandari Co-Op Credit Society Ltd; consolation award was given to The Bicholim Merchants Urban Co-Op Credit Society Ltd and Suvarnlaxmi Sahakari Patapeddhi Maryadit, Margao.
Assistance under individual category was provided to Hemashri Gadekar and Prakash Naik. On the occasion, persons from Shiroda Constituency were felicitated for their dedicated service in various fields. Chief Minister also inaugurated Bhartiya Women’s Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Ltd, Shiroda.
Present at the event were Co-Operative Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Registrar (Co-Operative Societies) Vishant Gaunekar; Zilla Panchayat Member, Shiroda, Narayan Kamat; Sarpanch Shiroda Village Panchayat, Mugdha Shirodkar among others.
