A 25-year native of Bihar was axed to death by his co-workers hailing from Jharkhand at a construction site at Pedda-Varca in the wee hours of Sunday.
In a swift action, the police have nabbed Goden Soren, a native of Jharkhand, while heading towards Panjim, while four other accused are still absconding.
The police are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the cold blooded murder of the Bihar worker.
Margao Sub Divisional Police Officer, DySP Umesh Gaonkar told Herald that the incident is believed to have occurred around 5.30 this morning. He said the deceased was done to death by a pickaxe as his head was smashed with the hard weapon.
DySP Gaonkar informed that six workers, including the deceased were putting up in one room, while other construction workers were staying in the adjoining rooms near the site. “Information reveals that the workers had joined duty only a day ago. The incident came to light when the contractor got a call stating that one of the worker have been murdered by the co-workers”, DySP Gaonkar added.
He said the five accused fled from the site and are believed to have gone into hiding in different directions. “The accused along with another worker, who had mobile phone, was tracked while heading towards Panjim. His interrogation would reveal the exact cause of the murder”, he said, adding that accused Goden was found drunk when arrested by the police.
The police have recovered the pickaxe used to commission the offence. A case under Section 302 of the IPC stands registered against the accused persons.
