PANJIM: A delegation of All Goa Private Bus Owners Association and Private Taxi Operators on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Transport Department alleging illegalities in the ongoing installation of the taxi digital fare meter.
The bus owners association’s General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar alleged that a petition was placed before the Judiciary alleging that the taxi operators are overcharging but the Transport Department without verifying the fact asserted that they would mandate taxi operators to put fare meters. He has termed it complete injustice.

“After the submission in the court that digital fare meters will be installed, Rule 140 was amended to further the cause of taxi meters. But the rule does not speak about those taxis which come to Goa from other States. Do these outstation taxis have meters installed?” he questioned.
This disparity, Tamhankar alleged, will incur huge loss to the Goan taxi operators and demanded that non-Goan taxis should also be mandated with the rule.
He further told reporters that government has appointed only one vendor instead of appointing 5-6 vendors, and taxi operators are forced to buy meters from this sole vendor without any option. “This is unacceptable to us,” he said.
