Dhirio attempt foiled again

MARGAO: The Margao town police foiled yet another attempt of dhirio on Thursday evening.

The dhirio were supposed to be held in Navelim and after receiving information, Police Inspector C L Patil tactfully placed his men at strategic points in Navelim and around and intercepted a rickshaw which was transporting a bull. The driver of the rickshaw Manuel Camilo, resident of Goa Velha and the vehicle (GA-07-F-0991) were detained under suspicion that the bull was being taken for a bull fight. Offence has been registered against the driver under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Meanwhile Simon Caiado, the former sarpanch of Goa Velha and a strong protagonist of making dhirio legal in Goa, has intervened in the matter and has said, “I agree that taking a bull in the rickshaw is a wrong act, but police shouldn’t file an offence suspecting dhirio, because the detained driver is my neighbour and he was taking the bull to Canacona. No bull fight happens without the second bull and there is no sign of the second one.”
The Margao Police had last week foiled another attempt of dhirio at Navelim.
