PANJIM: Thousands of Class XII students will be provided laptops under the government’s cyberage scheme, before the municipal elections in October. The Education department has confirmed the news stating that applications will be made available by next week.
This is the first time that Class XII students are being covered under the scheme, which was earlier restricted to Class XI. Education director G P Bhat said this will not affect the present Class XI students if financial provisions are made.
He explained that inclusion of Class XII is essentially because these students had not availed of the scheme in the previous academic year. The government was then in the process of clearing the pending applications when some students had got laptops after being promoted to the next class.
“The last batch of Class XI students to avail the scheme was in 2013-14. The preceding academic year did not have the fresh batch availing the scheme, which is why we have given them an opportunity to apply for laptops at nominal rates under the scheme,” Bhat said speaking to Herald.
