PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC), headed by Retired District Judge A D Salkar and with JA Keny as member, on Wednesday directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a thorough independent investigation and fix responsibility on defaulting officers in the alleged Rs 51 lakh food scam at last year’s BRICS Summit held in Goa.
Directing the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report within 30 days, GHRC adjourned the hearing to April 18 while also pointing out that the CS had not conducted an independent inquiry as directed by the commission on October 18 last year.
GHRC in its order has further noted that the so-called reply filed by the CS was a mere replica of the inquiry report submitted by the DGP to the Home Department. GHRC in its earlier order had directed the government not to make any payment to the food contractor Amonkar Classic Caterers.
