VASCO: Following public outcry and taking note of frequent agitation by Vidyanagar Zuarinagar residents over the plying of heavy vehicles though their internal village road, thereby causing hardships to them, the Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arundekar on Thursday issued directions banning daytime entry of all heavy vehicles on the road leading to MES College from NH17 B road.
Now heavy vehicles will be allowed to use the said road to transport building materials to their respective project site (located behind MES College) from 11 pm to 5 am and two hours relaxation (from 2 to 4 pm) in the afternoon for transporting concrete mixture trucks.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting held at the deputy collector’s office in Vasco on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Arundekar and was attended by all stakeholders including, representatives from MES college residential area and representatives of builders having their multi dwelling projects behind MES College, besides other government officials.
Sancoale Deputy Sarpanch Nandini Desai however raised her objections to the same and said that heavy vehicles should not be allowed to use the internal road even during night time and those who wish to transport building materials to their site should use other access road and not MES college road.
“Since panchayat has taken a decision seeking revocation of the construction licence issued to all the proposed mega projects in the village and as many of these mega projects are proposed behind MES College, I do not agree with the decisions taken today and I want that these heavy vehicles should be banned totally from using our internal village road,” Desai said.
