PANJIM: St Anthony Sports Club, Colva scored an easy 3-1 win over Betalbatim Sporting Club to move into the quarter-finals of the 11th London Trophy organised by Goa Velha Sports Club and played at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Tuesday.
Betalbatim Sporting Club surged ahead early in the match through a Bonny Fernandes strike which deflected off the Colva defender into the goal as it caught the Colva keeper on the wrong foot.
Anslem Rodrigues scored the equaliser for St Anthony Sports Club, Colva as Betalbatim keeper fumbled to hold a weak effort from Joseph Rodrigues.
Joel Rodrigues put St Anthony Sports Club, Colva ahead as he dribbled past a couple of defenders before blasting the ball into the Betalbatim nets.
At half time, St Anthony Sports Club, Colva lead 2-1.
After the break, Austin Fernandes of Betalbatim Sporting had the Colva keeper Jomiro stretching full length to keep the ball out. Hanniger Fernandes of Betalbatim Sporting centered the ball into the Colva box but their forwards Manushann Fernandes and Austin Fernandes collided and missed the opportunity.
Joseph Rodrigues made the issue safe for St Anthony Sports Club, Colva as he took a long run on the left and let fly a left footer that the Betalbatim Sporting keeper Lopes let the ball into the goal through his legs.
In another match, Calangute Association took an early lead through Amol Salgaocar who headed home off a free kick taken by Pedro Gonsalves beating Krupesh Bandodkar in the Candolim goal.
At the other end, Canute D’Souza put Nehal Naik through but Nehal failed to convert. Amol Salgaocar had a chance to score his brace and double the lead but his lobo over the rival keeper failed to find the nets.
At half time, Calangute Association lead by a solitary goal.
In the second half, Canute D’Souza scored the equaliser for Candolim SC after he received a pass from Janifer Clement and dribbled past the rival defenders before placing the ball into the goal beating Selwyn D’Souza in the Calangute goal.
Deepraj Sangelkar nearly doubled the lead for Candolim but his long range effort missed the target by a whisker.
At the other end, Aniket Mandrekar missed to convert off a Blake Haldankar through pass.
Rajkumar Naik nearly sealed victory for Calangute Association but was unlucky as his power packed effort hit the upright before going out of play.
In the resultant tiebreaker, Calangute Association scored through Pedro Gonsalves, Rajkumar Naik, Joaquim Gonsalves, Aniket Mandrekar, and Amol Salgaocar while Candolim SC scored through Siddharth Shirodkar, Aniket Agarwadekar, Akash Banavalikar, and Nikhil Naik.
