BAMBOLIM: Coach Mateus Costa was ‘happy and content’ following his team’s 2-1 win against Meghalaya at Bambolim Stadium.
“It’s just a first match and I’m happy that we got the three points. Definitely we need to see the hiccups here and there. I’m content with the performance. It will be better match after match,” said jubilant Mateus.
Goa had a slow start and Mateus side played rather possession play in the opening minutes of the game before pinning their opponents.
“We didn’t see Meghalaya play. We were keeping possession and when we saw that they countered fast that was the thing we wanted to stop and we successfully managed to do it,” added Mateus.
Goa’s defence was rock solid on Sunday evening and coach Mateus praised Peter for his role in the back line.
“I’m satisfied with Peter Carvalho’s role as stopper back as the earlier full back Fulgancao joined Churchill Bros then Ali who trained with us had to leave the team last moment and Lenny is out with injury. Peter being the midfielder was deputed as the defender and he did a very commendable job,” he concluded.
