Thousands flock to Vasco to witness Shigmo parade

VASCO: The Grand Shigmotsav float parade organised by Murgao Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS) enthralled several thousand people in Vasco on Wednesday.
Shigmotsav procession was flagged off from St Andrew’s Church Square by Vasco based industrialist Narayan Bandekar in the presence of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and MNSS President Shekhar Khadapkar. Soon after formal flag off ceremony, folk dance troupes and fancy dress participants kick started the grand event and the same was followed up by Romtamel and Colorful float depicting mythological scenes.
Several troupes in four different categories — floats (12), romtamel (5), folk dance (9) and fancy dress (junior category 11, senior category 14) gave their presentations in front of the stage that was erected opposite to Vasco railway station.
Since evening people from different parts of Mormugao flocked to the Swatantra Path to witness the floats prepared and decorated with mythological themes. The celebration was held under heavy pose of Goa police. The saffron flag all over the city and along the float parade route was an added attraction.
