Emerging out of a meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Tuesday evening, Dhavalikar said that the former is the final authority for finalizing alignment for the project. He said that the joint project consultants S N Bhobe and a Belgian company who charged Rs 3.20-crore were expected to be finalized within the next 25 days.
“The DPR would be submitted to Union Ministry for sanctioning,” Dhavalikar said, adding that the Rs 1,000-crore project would be fully funded by the Central government.
While the government has decided that the new Zuari bridge will have six lanes, other design aspects will depend on the proposals of the project consultant in their detailed project report. The government is planning to make the new Zuari bridge a signature bridge with unique design features and would be a tourist attraction. The present Zuari bridge, which connects North and South, is in bad condition.
Meanwhile, Dhavalikar said that government will shortly issue a tender for the construction of a bridge over river Khandepar. He said that the pre-qualifying bid has been opened and three agencies have bid for the project. The Talpona-Galgibaga bridge at Canacona would also be undertaken by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the Minister informed.
