MARGAO: Concerns about the national highway (NH) expansion plans were discussed at the gram sabha of Dramapur-Sirlim Village Panchayat.

Villagers shared their apprehensions about the NH given that they have been kept in the dark over what has been proposed and how they will get affected by it as they are already facing difficulty in crossing from one side to the other.
The age-old highway passes through the village between the bridge near Jacknibundh and the bridge near Digabundh. The villagers demanded that the panchayat write to the authorities and ask them to state what the government intends to do with the highway.
While Sarpanch Avita Pereira stated that the issue was already discussed with the government but the locals insisted for a written correspondence over the issue.
Villagers said that there should be a joint inspection where the authorities show the plans and take the locals into confidence.
The gram sabha also reconstituted the Biodiversity Management Committee.
The villagers also called for the removal of light tax from the panchayat’s house tax given that the Panchayati Raj Act had been amended and that the Electricity Department is now charging the locals for the same.
