BETALBATIM:Betalbatim SC defeated SC Davorlim 4-1 via the tie-breaker in the final of the Martin’s Cup football tournament held at the Betalbatim ground, on Sunday.
Denzil Rogtao the striker of Betalbatim who had the first best chance of the match in the 4th minute but the shot was pushed away to safety by Ashkesh Shetty keeper of SC Davorlim.
Davorlim through Valmiki Miranda should have netted but defender of Betalbatim blocked his move. Minutes later, Paxton Gomes’ shot missed the net of Betalbatim by whiskers.
As the match progressed, Valmiki Miranda almost scored the goal but Selio Fernandes defender of Betalbatim cleared the ball to safety.
Venson Figueirdo of Davorlim who came off from the Davorlim bench with just five minutes left for the final whistle missed two great chances which Jonathan Miranda, keeper of Betalbatim punched away the ball to safety on both occasions.
In the tie-breaker, Betalbatim SC netted through Klusner Pereira, Adriel D’Souza, Selio Fernandes and Brandon Barbosa while for SC Davorlim only Joe Gomes found the net.
The prizes awarded are as follows: Best striker Venson Figuerido of Davorlim, Discipline team: Navelim SC, Best goalkeeper of the final: Jonathan Miranda of Betalbatim and highest scorer of tournament: Klusner Pereira of Betalbatim.
Babu Azgaonkar, Minister for Sport and Tourism who was the chief guest gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in the presence of Wilfred D,Sa MLA of Nuvem constituency and Sergio Lobera, head coach of FC Goa and other dignitaries.
The winners collected Rs. 41,234 and runners-up pocketed Rs.31,234 plus trophies.
