PANJIM: Left red-faced by the Supreme Court reprimand last week for notifying service rules for employees of the High Court of Bombay at Goa in the Chief Justice’s name, the State government has issued the revised notification, which incorporates upgraded pay scales for the high court staff.
On November 14, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Goa Chief Secretary because the service rules that had been notified in the Chief Justice’s name were not the ones he had passed. The apex court had observed that the rules notified by the Goa government were different from the draft rules submitted by the rules committee of the Chief Justice.
The apex court had also directed the Chief Secretary to appear virtually for the next hearing scheduled for this Friday.
However, choosing not to wait for the next hearing, the Department of Law and Judiciary notified the revised service rules last Friday itself.
Eight Group A employees and 12 section officers of the High Court had filed two separate writ petitions before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, who by an order dated July 30, 2024, directed the State government to re-fix the pay and settle arrears from October 1, 2007 to July 31, 2024, within one year, as per the recommendations of the Chief Justice.
