PANJIM: The Children’s court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of Shoaib Afridi, one of the main accused in the Vasco surrogacy case.
The court, however, granted bail to four other accused namely, Shyam Kanoji, Vandana Govekar, Motiram Gaonkar and Tasleem Haji involved in the case of a minor girl who was allegedly sold as a surrogate mother.
While Kanoji was asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and report to the police station for a period of ten days, the other three accused Govekar, Gaonkar and Haji were released on bail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and report to the police station for a period of five days.
Meanwhile, an FIR was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape), 366A (procuring minor girl), 420 (cheating) and also under the relevant sections of the Goa Children’s Act as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act.
