VARCA: Betalbatim SC defeated Chandor club 2-1 to move into the quarter-final of the Varca Panchayat cup, at Varca ground, on Sunday.
Chandor club netted the first goal of the match through Lino D’Sa’s power packed shot off Akram Yadwad’s assist in the 6th minute. Chandor should have doubled the lead within three minutes through Jeston Martins who shot off a fine pass from Standly Hadagali.
As the match progressed, Betalbatim had the best chance through Travis Barretto who took control of the ball from Manushawn Fernandes and dribbled past Akram Yadwad and Mahesh Gaonkar of Chandor and shot the ball from close range but was denied by the Chandor goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas.
Chandor further went on the attack through Benson Fernandes who’s solo long range was saved by Betalbatim goalkeeper Micky Antao.
Klusner Pereira brought Betalbatim on level terms in the 21st minute with a ground shot. Just two minutes left for the final whistle, Ricky Fernandes scored the match winner for Betalbatim.
