PANJIM: Transport Department has drawn the interest of about nine bidders to the tender issued to install digital fare meters and global positioning systems (GPS) in the 20,000 off taxis in the State.
Transport Director Nikhil Desai said that the pre-bid conference was attended by all the bidders who had approached the department following the tender notice.
He said the bidders have raised queries that were clarified by the department. “We have sent the file to the government, once we get the approval the further process will be started”, he said.
Desai said that technical and commercial bids will be accepted only after the government approves the file. “We need at least 30 days for the remaining process till issue of the work order. We are now waiting for the government approval to start the process,” he said.
Transport Dept is working with Goa Electronics Limited to tighten loopholes that could lead to customers being cheated. The system will have GPS, digital meter, printer and panic button.
It is proposed in the tender document that the firm quoting the lowest rates will be given exclusive supply rights for three months and subsequently all vendors qualifying through the RFP, and agreeing to the lowest rates, will be empanelled with the Department to supply the meters.
