VASCO: Coming down heavily on the private company staff for not allowing the public to park their vehicles on the land that was earlier leased out to Dev Damodar Trust but was recently taken back by the State government, the Chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Deepak Naik on Tuesday said that the private company has no rights to stop public from parking their vehicles on the said land which is now a public property.
“The Dev Damodar trust land was initially owned by the MMC and was acquired by the government and leased out to Dev Damodar trust for 30 years by state government for constructing an auditorium. Now since the State government revoked the memorandum of lease and Mormugao Mamlatdar have taken the possession of the property, the private company has no rights to refrain members of public from entering into this public property or parking their vehicles at this prime land admeasuring 3964 square meters and is located right in the heart of the city,” Naik said.
“In fact I have already asked my engineers to seek all details about the land from Mormugao Mamlatdar so that in consultation with traffic police MMC can propose to use the same land as public parking facility until a public project is planned on the said land. Also general public has been suffering due to unavailability of parking facility in Vasco and since the land is located right next to vegetable market and next to government offices we will surely make all steps to ensure that the property is opened for public as parking facility, if required we along with Vasco MLA will even consult the state government with our proposal,” he added.
