The Catechetical Day was celebrated at the Diocesan level with great religious fervour in the Parish of Vaddem, Sanguem. His Grace Most Rev. Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão presided over the Eucharistic Celebration which was concelebrated by Fr Dumingo Gonsalves, (Executive Secretary, CCBI Commission for Catechetics), Fr Vithal Miranda, (Dean of Sanguem Deanery), Fr Romeu Godinho, (Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre, Old Goa), Fr Conceicao Pinto and other priests from the Archdiocese.
In his welcome address, Fr Romeu Godinho appreciated and thanked all the families who had wholeheartedly welcomed and served the ninety-two catechists during their weekend stay with them.
On this occasion, the Diocesan Catechetical Centre awarded 55 Catechists who had volunteered to serve the sick and the suffering at the risk of their lives during the COVID – 19 Pandemic. The Diocesan Catechetical Centre also felicitated 47 Catechists from Sanguem, Canacona, Benaulim, Chinchinim and Quepem Deaneries for teaching catechesis in their parish for more than 15 years. They were awarded with a certificate and a memento.
In his message, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão said that the Christian Faith and life is a matter of relationships. Jesus established relationships with all, especially with the poor, sick and downtrodden. He commended the Catechists who had participated in the weekend programme and for experiencing new relationships with the families of Vaddem. He also acknowledged and appreciated the services and sacrifices of the hundred and two catechists.
Catechist Ms. Edna Fernandes from Anjuna shared her weekend experience and Ms. Monica Mascarenhas from Panchwadi shared her experience as a Warrior of COVID – 19. The catechists and children from Sanguem Deanery presented a faith sharing programme. Ms. Riva Lima and Ms. Anisha Dias anchored the programme. Mr. Apociano Mascarenhas proposed a vote of thanks.
