MOIRA: The members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Rural Development visited Moira panchayat on Monday. Around 30 members inspected various works, which were taken up under the Central Government schemes.
They inspected houses, which were constructed under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY), footpath and wells constructed under MGNREGA scheme in the panchayat’s jurisdiction.
Later, the delegation proceeded to Saligao where they visited stalls which were installed under National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). The committee would be submitting its report to the Central Government.
Also present were officials from the Rural Development Agency, Bardez Deputy Collector Gaurish Shankwalkar, Bardez Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, Sarpanch Riya Belekar and panchas.
Moira panch Oswald Cordeiro informed that they had inspected various works undertaken under the Central Government scheme.
“We have informed the delegation that IAY scheme has been discontinued in Goa six years ago and now barely a handful falls under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). They were enquiring about toilets. We have been sending reports of people without toilets since 2012 even this year we have sent but we have not received sanction for even a single toilet. They were basically enquiring about Swachh Bharat and other schemes,” he added.
