CCTVs to keep watch on movement of employees

Administrative reforms and development is expected to receive a shot in the arm in the Margao Civic body, as Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is expected to announce a slew of measures on Thursday to improve the civic administration by bringing the employees under the CCTV scanner.
During his proposed visit to the Margao Civic body on Thursday – the first visit since the new body under the leadership of Chairperson Sushila Naik assumed office – the Chief Minister is also expected to announce a development grant of Rs two crore for developmental works in the 20 wards.
The MMC Standing Committee, which met on Wednesday evening on the eve of the Chief Minister’s visit, adopted a resolution to install CCTVs in the Municipal sections to track the movement of the staff and employees.
MMC Chairperson Sushila Naik said the Standing Committee meeting also approved developmental works worth Rs 10 lakh in each of the 20 Municipal wards. “The Chief Minister is visiting the Civic body on Thursday, and he would announce developmental plans for the city after an interaction with the City Fathers”, she added.
Incidentally, during his last visit to the Civic body around six months ago, the Chief Minister had announced that the Civic body would implement CCTV project within a month’s time. However, when Kamat was quizzed by newsmen during his subsequent visit to the Civic body about the non-implementation of the CCTV project, he said the project would be implemented by the government instead of the civic body.
Sadly, while the Standing Committee and the Chief Minister has strongly favoured CCTVs as a means to bring the employees under scanner, the bio-metric finger scan reader installed at the civic body more than three years ago is lying idle following objections from the employees union under the banner of the Goa Municipal Employees Association.
